8 SYMPTOMS OF THE BODY NOT GETTING ENOUGH WATER

Fluid circulates in the blood vessels, fills the various cells and is found between them. It is involved in numerous processes that help us stay healthy and active.

-We lose water throughout the day by evaporating it when we breathe, cry and sweat. Our bodies excrete water with urine and feces. In addition to fluids, the body also removes a certain amount of electrolytes.

-In order to maintain normal functioning, the body tries to regulate water intake according to water loss.

-We replenish body fluids by drinking drinks and eating water-rich foods.

-But sometimes we cannot meet our water needs because we are too busy, too sick to drink, or do not have access to safe sources of drinking water (traveling, camping, etc.):

-When the body loses more fluids than it consumes, this is called dehydration.

-This can happen for a variety of reasons, from a decreased sense of thirst (in the elderly) to high fever, profuse diarrhea, severe vomiting and rapid urination (in people with high blood glucose levels or who take water pills).

In most cases, the body sends warning signals about lack of water before serious health problems begin to develop. What are these warning signals?

HEADACHE.
-Dehydration can trigger a migraine attack, especially if you’re prone to this type of headache. That’s why headaches can be relieved by drinking a glass of water.

DRY MOUTH.
-Inadequate water intake can reduce the production of saliva, which normally hydrates the mouth. This causes discomfort in the mouth and bad breath.

CHANGES IN URINE
-Inadequate drinking causes the body to try to “conserve” water by reducing the amount of urine. In addition, the urine becomes very concentrated and takes on a more yellow color than usual.

DEHYDRATION
-Usually with dehydration, people feel constantly sleepy, even after a good night’s sleep.

MUSCLE SPASMS.
-With fluid, salts and electrolytes are lost. If this loss is not replenished, the balance of electrolytes in the body can become imbalanced, sometimes causing muscle cramps in the extremities.

VERTIGINS
-Headaches and dizziness can be caused by many things. Lack of water is one of them.

SEVERE FATIGUE.
-In dehydration, you may feel very tired, even if you have not been doing strenuous physical activity.

INCREASED HEART RATE
-In more severe cases, dehydration causes your heart to beat too fast to compensate for the drop in blood pressure that occurs because of the severe loss of fluid.
